This house is located on the northern part of the island of Kythira, on an isolated hilltop overlooking the Peloponnese and the sea, with a big internal courtyard providing shelter from strong winds. It houses a family of 6 plus their guests - the number of which often exceeds 20 people. The architecture is directly influenced from the local vernacular and local materials were preferred for the construction. The initial design thoughts on sustainable architecture, are reflected by the orientation, the materials used and the spatial configuration of the building that provides natural ventilation and protection from the intense heat of the Greek summers. The total area of the building measures 4000 square feet.
