When “crazy, weird, and mental” is a compliment.

“People ask me, how do I become more creative? I always say, don’t think ‘creative’. Think ‘crazy’. The crazier the more creative. When someone says — your idea’s normal — you should feel insulted.”

Creativity is always illogical at first glance. Sometimes, it remains illogical. It’s a cliché but I wonder the laughs God must have had when he created the platypus.

Nano-science is the most creative field of science. Everything we see around us — all physical matter, living or non-living, visible like the clouds or invisible like the wind — find their origins in nano-science. By its very nature, nano-science is creative. But nano-science defies all the laws of science. Scientists today are still baffled — in a most marvelous way — at the eccentricities of nano-science.

“What is true on the macro-level of physics is utterly opposite when we enter the sub-atomic level of physics,” a prominent scientist stated. “It’s like entering a whole new world where up is down, and left is right. The laws are all mixed up.”

Creativity is illogical at first. It stops you and makes you think. Creativity is not normal. Creativity is weird. And it’s your weirdness that makes you unique. That is until your weirdness makes you famous, and everyone wants to be weird like you, and then your weirdness suddenly becomes common.

“If you’re weird, mental, eccentric, or even schizophrenic, you’ll find your home as a creative in an ad agency. In fact, the more non-conformist the better. The worst thing you can ever be is bland.”

Sometimes genius is organised. Sometimes it is in total disarray, like something hit by a bomb. Genius often speaks in another language; sometimes its a language not found on this planet. The most creative geniuses are familiar with the word “crazy”. Likewise, the craziest geniuses are also the most creative.

“The best advice I can give to budding creatives is: Stop playing safe! Dial it up!”
